~ Empower Emerging Artists ~

Guidance for learners

We help high school, college, and adult learners to understand the power of language. Then, we help communities establish student-led organizations.

Our 5 to 10 day residency programs are designed with sustainability in mind. We help students to understand the "why" and "how" of theatre. We co-create in ways that are accessible, imaginative and collaborative. Then, we strategize ways to continue telling stories that are meaningful and authentic after the residency ends. We leave folks ready to become self-producing artists.

Bird City has wings. We're happy to travel online or in-person.

Our Programs

1. The Improv Drama Club | Student-Led Theatre

We want to get serious. OMG. WE. WANT. drama. We want improv that moves the audience to laughter and tears. This residency offers learners a 5-10 day workshop series designed to help students create their own improv drama club. With sustainability in mind, we hope to work in collaboration with a student or program leader who may continue the work after the residency ends.

Duration: 5-10 Days | Capacity: 6-16 Students

2. The Writer’s Room | Co-Creating for Stage & Screen

We want to be writers. We want to be funny, talk funny, and laugh a lot. We want to create community-focused theatre and film as a team. This residency offers learners a 5-10 day workshop series to support a co-writing club that is inclusive, affirming and non-hierarchical. With sustainability in mind, we hope to work in collaboration with a student or program leader who may continue the work after the residency ends.

Duration: 5-10 Days | Capacity: 6-16 Students

3. Decoding the Script | Active Analysis & Story Exploration

We want to be actors. We want practical improv tools for understanding our characters, analyzing the script, and elevating the (un)spoken word. We want to unearth the poetry of language. We want to see rehearsal as theatrical algebra – human equations waiting to be discovered and solved. This workshop series offers learners a 5-10 day residency aimed at exploring scripted performance through improv and active analysis. With sustainability in mind, we hope to work in collaboration with a student or program leader who may continue the work after the residency ends.

Duration: 5-10 Days | Capacity: 6-16 Students

testimonials

"Going to Tavish's improv class was like unwrapping a really cool gift I didn't even know I wanted." -Kim Metz, Fmr. Student at Baltimore Improv Group

"Initially, I was nervous about attending his classes as it had been some years since I had tried acting/improv. Tavish started the classes with some warmups and exercises and I felt like I was back in action." -Raheem Brown, Fmr. Student at Morgan State
