Many religions and spiritual practices value the connection to the soul, the voice of inspiration inside you, and also to the spirit, the energy of love and possibility that surrounds us. In this class, we aim to bridge practices of faith and improv, highlighting their common values of trust, hope, and unity. Participants will learn about the fundamentals of unscripted theatre and walk away with tangible skills to empower the self and strengthen a community. Special emphasis will be placed on discovering joy as an ingredient of collaboration, embracing failure as a means to cultivate humility, trusting your intuition as a gift from God, and supporting your fellow practitioners as an act of love. At the end of the workshop students will be able to discuss their personal experiences and reflect on the intersection between faith and spontaneity, in a safe and respectful environment.
Bird City isn't the only one to recognize the connection between improv and faith. For the complete story, check out Jason Heidemann's article from Time Out magazine.
